Covid-19: New Deaths Reported, Infections Stays High In CT; Latest Breakdown Of Cases By County

More than three dozen new COVID-19 fatalities were reported in the past week in Connecticut, which has seen the number of new infections rapidly continue to spread across the state.

In the past week, Connecticut hospitals recorded 37 new virus-related deaths, bringing the total as of Thursday, Dec. 9 to 8,946 statewide since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The daily positive COVID-19 infection rate of those tested in Connecticut has been fluctuating in the past week, up above 8 percent for the first time in nearly a year before dipping back down to 6.48 percent of those tested on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

On Dec. 8, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that there were more than 41,000 COVID-19 tests administered statewide, resulting in 2,679 new laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus.

One new COVID-19 patient was admitted to a Connecticut hospital, bringing the total being treated up to 576, nearly double what was being reported two weeks ago.

Connecticut continues to be among the quickest states to roll out their COVID-19 vaccines, with 2,782,103 first doses administered as of Dec. 9, while 2,514,321 have completed the vaccination process with both shots.

A breakdown of which populations have received the most vaccines, by age group on Dec. 9:

  • 65+: >95 percent
  • 55-64: 95 percent;
  • 45-54: 86 percent;
  • 35-44: 87 percent;
  • 25-34: 80 percent;
  • 18-24: 74 percent;
  • 16-17: 81 percent;
  • 12-15: 73 percent;
  • 5-11: 27 percent.

  • Fairfield: 118,652 (2,329 deaths);
  • New Haven: 113,208 (2,288);
  • Hartford: 105,989 (2,630);
  • New London: 30,904 (510);
  • Litchfield: 19,132 (347);
  • Middlesex: 16,266 (403);
  • Windham: 15,326 (231);
  • Tolland: 12,470 (205).
